They were in the process of transporting the drugs from a foreign country to Ireland when they were arrested. Judge Patrick Durcan said that the pair had not let the gravity of their actions or the dangers they faced come into their minds, despite the fact that it was "a clear and grave transgression of a fundamental principle of this State".
